This morning's review hits at black metaller's "Casque". This duo comes from Indianapolis, Indiana from the states. With only two current demos the band is still active, which is a seldom find. We'll start with their first demo, "Devour the Lion". This four song collection is what you'd expect of your typical black metal demo. Tearing vocals, obnoxious blast beats, tremolo picking... the works. However, the quality of the demo is exceptional. You can actually hear everything that is happening. This really helps this demo stand out among others, especially since it doesn't have anything particularly unique about it. The riffs are good, fast, and melodic riffs that make for a good listening experience. It also has a great mix of slower tempos and even a breakdown in one of the song. The drums are great in working with the guitars and it creates an overall well functioning machine. Other than that this demo isn't particularly special. Definitely check it out though.
Best Track - "Banished" Moving on to their second demo, "Furious Machine of Perpetual Disgust". This one is definitely different from the first. It is a single track, ten minute long demo, but you can't really hear the work put in. First thing to note about the demo is the "quality". It didn't go down but was mixed so you get a bit more of that original black metal feel. This segways us into the corresponding music style. The riffs are way more intense. The are fast and brutal and there is such a variety that it is hard to get bored. These mixed with the sound mix definitely create some intense sounds. The drums are phenomenal. As the previous demo, they really work to keep with the guitars, creating a flowing track. So lets breakdown the track bit by bit. The intro is an intro. Its different, it grabs your attention. Afterwards, during the beginning, we have some really harsh sounds. It is reminiscent of some bestial black metal however its controlled enough that everything is clear. From there we get a great variety of riffs until the middle. Here we slow down, getting a good grooving interlude and some call and response action. After this we transition by picking up the pace real hard. We get a little bit of soloing work and some cool interludes. And then it just carries out to the end and results in good ole tradition black metal finale. This demo is amazing and should most definitely be listened to. In conclusion, this band is a great find, is a short listen, and a really great experience. Casque - "Furious Machine of Perpetual Disgust"
